Our Mission

Attitude of Hope, LLC

An Attitude of Hope, LLC was founded with the purpose of providing medical care through local veterinary hospitals and rehoming pets whom we believe to be adoptable but would otherwise be euthanized.  In addition, we strive to help people in need in the southern Illinois community and throughout the world.   Some of the individual pets we have helped and their stories may be found further down.

We are pleased to also have supported the following organizations in the brief time since our startup:

The Poshard Foundation
Pat's Kids
ASPCA
The Women's Center
WBVN 104.5 Christian Radio
Humane Society of the United States
St. Francis CARE
Compassion International
Hospice of Southern Illinois
Salvation Army
Perry County Humane Society
Project Hope
Pets Are Worth Saving (PAWS)
Marion Regional Humane Society

We also continue to fund the sponsoring of the "
Pet of the Week" spot on WQRL, 106.3, Benton.

You may hear information on the next Pet of the Week every Thursday at 4:30 p.m. on Ashley's Afternoon Delight show.  And, of course, come back here every week to see the featured pet.  Even better - go visit him or her at the designated shelter and fall in love.

The Future

While we plan to continue to aggressively support the above organizations, the future holds many promising projects including:

Active lobbying to have a spay/neuter ordinance passed through the legislature in the tri-county area.
A possible shelter facility on our property.
Transportation of adoptable pets to other areas in the state and country where more adoptions ae possible.

Our Mission:  It's All About An Attitude of Hope!

Our mission started with a little beautiful brindle Chihuahua whom we later named Hope (photograph below).  This little girl was thrown out of a moving vehicle.  If it were not for perfect timing on the part of one of our vet techs, she would certainly have perished at the roadside.  Her right front leg sustained nerve damage from the impact.  She was almost frozen, sadly dehydrated, mal-nourished, extremely wormy, and due to her former abuse, she was difficult to love.  We nursed her leg along for about one year, but it became evident it was not going to heal properly.  It needed to be amputated.  Her care was, of course, quite costly.  Now she is a happy, very spoiled, loved girl with "an attitude" who simply deserved a chance.  Granted, she still doesn't appreciate strangers, but that is understandable with her past.

Myia has become Hope's reluctant "sister."  Myia was an owner surrender at the vet hospital.  Her owner's future fiancee's teenage son was starting to abuse her.  Very skittish she continues to come along nicely and as you can see, she now has a happy forever home.  Doesn't she look cute in her dress??

Tucker (photograph below) was named by our veterinary hospital staff.  He was brought in my a caring couple who hit him on the road back from Paducah.  Unable to pay for the care of his injuries themselves, I suggested they relinquish him to me for further care.  St. Francis CARE in Carbondale was enlisted to help me to find a forever home for Tucker, and I am pleased to annouce that he is now living with a family in Missouri.

This adorable fellow wandered onto our property recently.  Wearing a collar but no tags, he had no identification.  Dehydrated and feeling pretty unloved, he was a gentle, but uncertain giant.  I was unable to locate his owner and made arrangements to have him transported to Central Illinois Great Pyrenees Rescue after waiting the time required by Animal Control for his owners to appear.  He now has a chance at a caring home.

I cannot believe someone did not claim this handsome fellow from the pound.  He was named "Willie" by the rescue agency staff, and here is the update.  "Hi Roberta, Thought you might like to see some pictures of Willie. Thank you for intervening on his behalf. This boy was a family member at some time in his life. He was already neutered and has proven to be house trained and well behaved inside. Guess we will never know how he came to be in such a state of neglect. Willie is with my most excellent foster and doing very well. He has about 25 pounds to gain and Marietta is just the foster mom to do that. She has been working on his coat as you can see and he get more handsome by the day. Hopefully we will find him just the right forever home soon before Marietta gets too attached. LOL  Take care, and thanks again, Cindy."

Herman (below right) and Earl (below left).  Both FIV positive kitties who desperately needed a chance at life which we were only too happy to give to them.  They are since passed on from complications related to their disease, but we were able to provide them with love, care and companionship.

Our latest rescue has been named Houdini.  Houdini is a long-hair tabby who was found under a client's deck, looking very sorry for himself.  Although at least a year old, he weighed only 6#.  We arranged for his Leukemia/AIDs test, vaccinations and neutering.  I am delighted to say that he was found a forever home with one of my pet sitting clients, and is doing very well with his brothers and sisters who are both cats and dogs.  Unfortunately, his photos were destroyed when my Old English Mastiff, Snuggles, chose to eat my cell phone.  Bad Snuggie!!!  "Who, innocent me???" he says...

Your help is critical in allowing us to continue our mission.  It is only through your donations, continued support of Southern Illinois Pet Sitters, and your purchases of odor eliminating candles and Silpada Sterling Silver Jewelry that we have been able to help one pet, one person at a time.
