Rainbow Bridge

This page is a tribute to the babies we have lost, whether furry, feathered or with fins or scales.

If you would like to add a picture or a story in memory of one of your friends, please send a photograph to
southernilpetsit@gmail.com along with a story.  I would be very pleased and honored to add your memory to this page.

My heart breaks over the loss of the following wonderful pets (both mine and those I had the priviledge to sit) that I had an absolute delight to know for only too short a time.  They were all distinct individuals with indominable spirits and unending devotion.  Always remembered and forever loved.

Winston
Winston, a big bundle of Bulldog.  Frequently intimidated by his tiny little "sister," Chispa, a Papillon.  I miss hearing the click of his nails on the hardwood floor, his snoring when he would get all so comfortable and snuggly on the chaise lounge reserved just for him.  We somehow managed to wriggle his large frame out of the doggie door and loved to lounge on the deck flat on his belly with his rear legs outstretched.

Chispa
Chispa was Winston's "sister," a tiny fluffy little sprite of a dog.  A Papillon with all the beauty of a butterfly combined with spunk and attitude.  She was the boss of the house and ensured that all who entered knew that she was in charge.  She was diabetic and tolerated the insulin injections I had to administer as well as possible while letting me know all the while that the poking was beneath her dignity.  She would guard her food and water bowls from her "brother," Winton, with incredible tenacity always backing him down.

Grace
Gracie, as I called her, was a beautiful Alaska Malamute or Siberian Husky.  She had such gentle eyes, one blue, one brown, which reflected only patience and love.  She was a sweet and graceful girl, as her name implies.  A truly gentle soul whom I knew for only a very short period of time.

Jewell
Jewell was a German Shepherd who graciously shared her lodgings with 4 other dogs and a variety of kitties.  She kept the pack in line with a firm and gentle nature.  I never had a particular fondness for Shepherds, until I met Jewell and had the opportunity to be taught (by Jewell) the intelligence, dignity and grace of the breed.  Thank you, Jewell, for opening my eyes to the beauty of the breed which you exemplified.

Daisy
I bagan to sit for Daisy when she was 15, a grand old age for a yellow lab.  She was a sweet gal who always managed, even in her advanced age, to stand up, walk over and greet me with a wagging tail and an eager expression.  She melted my heart.

Sebastian
Sebastian was a beagle mix whom I could always guarantee would greet me with
an enthusiastic wag of his tail and an expectant look.  A truly happy little soul who always would bring a smile to my face.

You will all forever have a place in my heart, and I look forward to the day I cross the rainbow bridge to be reunited with you all.  God bless your furry little hearts.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they canrun and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
